I wasn't sure how to colour the box at first, I had planned to paint it, but found that Distress Inks in my favourite Vintage Photo gave it a great faux leather look with very little effort. I added a gold embossed image from the Inkadinkado Utopiary set, to try and make it look like a tooled leather cover. Then I added some of my favourite metal corners.
I added some gold rubbing paste on the spine and edged the box with some gold paper I had marked with the finest embossing tool I had to make it look like pages.
I lined the box with a 6 x 6 Webster's Pages paper that I thought looked like a book end paper design and added a greeting - this is one of my favourite Elusive Images designs, I love art nouveau and use it a lot, plus a little calender from the new Tim Holtz Lost and Found pad. I added the greeting on another tag later. I would normally decorate the inside of the box with many more bits and pieces, but my OH is not one for lots of fussy detail, so that didn't seem appropriate this time.
I think it looks a little ragged round the edges, but maybe that is OK for an old book!!
Thanks for popping by and I hope you are having a good weekend.

Elaine, from what you have told us about Hubby I think this is perfect! It really does look like an old tooled leather book and I'm impressed by the 'pages' effect. I'm sure I wouldn't have thought of that. Lovely well thought out card/gift for your OH.

How clever! It really does look old and well-loved. Really good choice of papers for the inside. It reminded me of the inside of an old suitacase my parents had. Looks like it should have ticked all the boxes for your OH.
ReplyDeletelooks like a very well loved book and I can imagine hubby will adore it.

Your book turned out brilliantly Elaine, I love the inside. As Jo said, it's so reminiscent of an old suitcase. The tag and sentiment are perfect, and you were right not to over embellish it. I'm sure that your OH was really pleased, as it is a lovely card to treasure, with a lot of thought taken. Judith xx
