At the start of the year I bought the Penny Black Snow Fairies stamp set. I am not one for cute designs as a rule, but sometimes the character of particular designs calls to me and these rather mischievous little fairies were an example of this. I actually stamped these images on watercolour paper in archival ink months ago, coloured them with my Faber-Castell Aquarelle watercolour pencils and a waterbrush and fussy cut them out in front of the TV one evening.
I decided to take a production line approach to make the batch of 10 cards, so I cut the teal matting, squares of two types of designer paper and die cut and stamped the snow drifts, ready for the sticking session.
Originally I was going to stamp and emboss a snow fall background, but I took the lazy route and used a couple of sheets of 12 x 12 designer paper.
I added the pre-stamped die cut snow drifts, being carefully not to glue right at the top, so I could tuck a little foot down behind the snow where this looked appropriate for the design.
Thanks to the three different fairy designs and the different backgrounds, I got a bit of variety in the designs. I finished off by adding a little sparkle to the wings and snow balls with a clear Wink of Stella pen.
It is always nice to see a new batch of cards packed up into a cello bag (usually a recycled one) and ready to go into the Christmas card box!
So in the space of less than two hours I made my 10 cards and I was pleased with the result.

The designer paper looks great behind the watercolored fairies with attitude - with your trick of tucking a fairy foot into the snowdrift giving a super effect. Lovely when you can see the set coming together with so much variety too.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine, your batch cards are fantastic! Beautiful and fun. I'm the same, I don't usually go for cute (still appreciate looking at others that use them), but the images are quite fun and your backgrounds compliment them very well. I hope you are doing well, it's been very busy here. Shirleyxx
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute Elaine. lovely colour combination, and combined with the sentiment, just perfect. To see a nice little batch made up so quickly must be very satisfying too! I really must get a wriggle on with my Christmas cards, which are woefully short in supply at the moment. Judith xx
ReplyDeleteYour cards are delightful Elaine, and although I don't do cute much either, I have succumbed on several occasions to the Lavinia Stamp fairies! You have done well getting started on your cards - I go from one extreme to another, of feeling it's way to early to even think about Christmas and then suddenly panicking because I haven't made any yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog earlier,

Hi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteI replied by email to your last comment and have just remembered you probably won't have got it! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog - I hope you have loads of fun with your new green velvet - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it - are you thinking Christmas by any chance?

Thank you Elaine for your stopping by and wishing Archie well. Having been brought up with dogs all my life I am not used to G.Pigs and am finding it quite scary looking after these little animals. The problem has been a bladder stone, which some G.Pigs seem prone to and we are worried it may recur again. I thought having a G.Pig would be easier and less of a tie than getting another dog - ha ha how wrong I was!!
ReplyDeleteHope life is treating you well,
