New project

It's been a busy old time for me lately and I am playing catch up as usual. I have though managed to stick down the first page in a new project I have had in the pipeline for some time.

Back last year I saw an amazing collage book in Somerset Studio gallery. It was all stuck into a 12 x 12 artist's sketch book with black pages. Back last year I bought myself a similar book, which was actually a bit pricey, but I wanted to do this project as pure self indulgence so it seemed justified and my OH unusually actually encouraged me to go for it!

The idea for me was to create beautiful pages using some of those lush 12 x 12 papers that I had bought but couldn't bear to part with. It just seems so sad that they sit there doing nothing. Doing these layouts which are more collages that typical scrapbooking (which I don't really do) gave me a reason for using them and I can still look at them and stroke them any time I like!

I actually gathered all the elements of this page together last year, but in the last couple of days I did the deed and stuck them down!

Now, I love book print papers, things with a French theme and birds, plus a little subtle glitter so I was bound to fall for this My Mind's Eye paper, which I bought at the Ally Pally show a couple of years ago. I have added cut out sections from 7 Gypsies Conservatory paper and also some Websters Pages in the corners. The little girl tag and the Eiffel Tower ticket are both Crafty Individuals stamps. The word Beauty is from a quite new Chocolate Baroque set called Artistic Expressions. I added an image from a postcard, a frame from K & Co and some bargain butterfly embellishments.

I just wanted to ask are people finding when they load my blog that the background is now floating in a reduced size with the text superimposed over the top? I look at my blog on three different computers, over time this floating thing has happened in turn on each of the three computers. I think I may have to finally abandon the background I have had ever since I set up my blog which will be a wrench and also delve back into the new blogger template designer which I really don't like very much as it doesn't seem to do what I expect. If anyone has any good ideas of how to get over the problem I would love to hear from you!

Have a good weekend

  1. What a gorgeous page Elaine, I like the idea of sticking it into a book like this, as you say you can still stroke the papers.

In answer to your question, yes the background has shrunk and has the writing over the top of it. But sorry I don't know of any way to fix it.

  2. What a brilliant idea to use those wonderful papers which we all have and can't bear to cut up or part with. so much better being used in a lovely book like this where you can still enjoy them.

I've not noticed your blog doing anything strange - just the two lovely trees either side with the black area down the centre with the details and pictures.

  4. Elaine, the background appears in blocks of about 6" long x 2" wide all over your blog. It prevents me seeing what you have written. I love your journal book idea.

  5. Hi Buddy, Love your page and what a good way to hang on to those precious beautiful papers. I love all the elements you've chosen too.

I'm getting the same as Aquarius! Your blog content does look as though it's superimposed over the gorgeous orchard but it looks fine to me.

  8. This is a lovely idea Elaine. I have some gorgeous papers tucked away in boxes, and they would be perfect for something like this. I love the collage nature of your page, and all of the details. You know I love that CI little girl, you have used it on a card for me before, so it has special meaning to me. I am also very fond of those new CB stamps, it's a great complilation all round.
Your page has appeared to look a bit odd for a while, who knows with Blogger these days?

  9. I love this idea & particularly as I don't do scrapbooking either - went on a course & discovered how cramped I felt by it. Love the idea of doing collage pages with stamps & papers though & those butterflies are just goregeous. I'll do some playing about with different browsers & come back to you but with Safari your blog is almost impossible to read so I read it in RSS instead. The orchard is miniature but scrolls along with the writing & the writing isn't legible.

  10. I've had a look in Firefox & it's still the same as in Safari. I use a MacBook Pro with Blogger & Safari as my preferred browser.
