I picked some smaller leaves and used them as masks with mostly adirondack dye inks to make some interesting backgrounds. Firstly I sponged two colours onto white card, before stippling with a darker colour to repeat masking with the frilly leaf edge all over the card. I am usually hopeless at doing backgrounds, so I was really pleased with the results. Each sheet took no more than 15 minutes. The first I did was on a Willow and Lake Mist background, stippled with a Colorbox pigment ink. This is greener in real life!
Next I did a bluey version, using Juniper and Pool for the sponged background and Stream for the stippling.
Last I did a red and orange version, with a Sunset Orange and Watermelon sponged background and Cranberry stippled leaf pattern.

Now I just need to incorporate these designs into some interesting projects!

These backgrounds are great - look forward to seeing them again in a project. Must have a look round my garden - I suppose one could use leaves from weeds LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful effect! These backgrounds are well worth doing. Well done!

ReplyDeleteI love your leafy backbrounds, they are absolutely gorgeous, particularly your choice of colours. We only have a tiny garden so I will have to have a look out for lovely (fallen) leaves in our local park when I take Jake (our beautiful black lab) for a walk.
Look forward to meeting you at the Graphicus Retreat - you must bring some of your completed background projects along with you.

These are fantastic. Almost too nice to be backgrounds. Be sure not to cover too much of them up when you use them.
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning Elaine, don't think you need much help with these! Like you, I found that article thought-provoking and will be out in the garden tomorrow, so will see what I can find!

WOW These are so full of depth aren't they. Love them. So pleased my article in Craft Stamper gave you the nudge over the threashold to go leaf picking. When you live in a beautiful leafy part of the country as you and I both do, its the way to go, using whats around you. You should send some of your finished pieces to Katy at the magazine to show how you've taken the basic idea forward. Its posts like this that really cheer me up for the day , thankyou x Jo (I look forward to visiting your blog often)
